Live Gig Gloria - Cologne

Pukkelpop Festival 2011 - 18.08.2011 - Hasselt, Belgien(Mrz/12/2011) The Gloria Theatre is one of NRW’s most beautiful locations for a concert. But there are not many rock bands playing there. So it is nice that THE MAINE and NEVERSHOUTNEVER! are playing there instead of the shitty Luxor, where they intended to play first. In front of the Gloria is a huge amount of kids who wait to get in the club to see both bands on their first Europa tours.

NEVERSHOUTNEVER! are the first to play. But it is surprising that singer anf guitarist Chrisopher Drew is only featured by a drummer and not a whole band like on their last US-tour. And he plays an electric guitar instead of a classic one, so it is sometimes hard to recognize the songs on the spot. Either way it is really enjoying to watch the duo play. Drew seems to have a lot of fun, too. The shy skinny dude is shaking the hands of the girls in the front row and is kidding his drummer sometimes.
Songs like „On The Bright Side“, „Cheatercheaterbestfriendeater“ or „Coffee & Cigarettes“ are getting a real good respone by the crowd, which is singing along or clapping their hands or just scream because Drew is so cute.
After 45 minutes their show is over and Drew is shaking hands again to say goodbye.

Unterwegs in - © sumnersgraphicsinc - Fotolia.comAfter half an hour THE MAINE are entering the stage. The five-piece is joined by a keyboard player. „Don’t Stop Now“ starts the set of the Americans. It seems like the kids are waiting for them much more than for NEVERSHOUTNEVER!. They are screaming from the bottom of their lungs during the first chords of the song. The band is in a very good mood and play a much better show than I expected. It is fun to watch them play the songs of their two records „Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop“ and their most recent work „Black & White“, which featured a more matured and american rocksound than the poppy one before.
THE MAINE put up a really good show just like they were playing in front of 10.000 people and not only 600. They are winning the crowd over with songs like „I Must Be Dreaming“, „Right Girl“, „Give It To Me“ , „Girls Do What They Want“ or „Into Your Arms“.

After almost 70 minutes their show is going to end. THE MAINE leave the stage under enthusastic applause and talk outside the venue to all their fans for hours.
